MCh – Urology Admissions in India 2015

MCh - Urology Admissions in India 2015
Urology is as old as surgery. In the late fifties and the sixties, general surgeons in the country were in-charge of urology. Urology as a specialty was still in its infancy. Urethral dilatation was the treatment of choice for stricture. Complex stone disease was either untreated or if required a nephrectomy was done. Freyer's prostatectomy was the treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Meanwhile, urology as a specialty had taken off on either side of the Atlantic.

Urology is the medical and surgical specialty involving disorders of the genitourinary tract, and the adrenal glands. In particular, this specialty concerns itself with kidney, bladder and urinary problems, as well as men's sexual and reproductive health. Urologists also known as genitourinary surgeons, are those who specialize in urology that diagnose and treat patients with different urological conditions. The urinary and reproductive tracts are closely linked, and disorders of one often affect the other. Thus a major spectrum of the conditions managed in urology exists under the domain of genitourinary disorders.

Although Urology is classified as a surgical specialty, a knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required by the urologist because of the wide variety of clinical problems encountered.

Job Prospects:
Urologists are specialized physicians who diagnose and treat conditions of the urinary tract and male reproductive systems. The American Urology Association has identified seven sub-specialty areas that include pediatric urology, male infertility and urological oncology, among others. Urologists typically work in private practices, hospitals or clinics.

Job prospects are expected to be very good due to increased need for Urology services, especially for urologists with specialty training and extensive experience. Many job openings arise from the need to replace urologists that retire, transfer, or leave the profession for other reasons.

Most Urologists work in a hospital setting or in a private clinic. There are ample job opportunities for Urologists in the Urology department of reputed Hospitals. Urologist can also open their own Kidney and Uro stone Clinic and provide services to the patients. Many surgeons will advance their careers by joining a group practice with surgeons in related fields, or by opening a practice of their own. Some Urologists may also become teachers in medical schools and colleges.

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology Adm. in India

MCh - Surgical Oncology Admissions in India 2015
Oncology is the study of cancer. A doctor who specializes in treating people with cancer is called an oncologist. Usually, an oncologist manages care and treatment once a person is diagnosed with cancer.

Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology; it focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors.

As one of several modalities in the management of cancer, the specialty of surgical oncology, before modern medicine the only cancer treatment with a chance of success, has evolved in steps similar to medical oncology (pharmacotherapy for cancer), which grew out of hematology, and radiation oncology, which grew out of radiology. The Ewing Society known today as the Society of Surgical Oncology was started by surgeons interested in promoting the field of oncology. Though it has not been ratified by a specialty Board certification, the area of expertise is coming to its own by the success of combined treatment with chemotherapy.

Job Prospects:
Oncologist is responsible for the care of a patient from the moment of a cancer diagnosis throughout the course of the disease. The oncologist’s role includes the following:

Explaining the cancer diagnosis and stage (a description of where the cancer is located, if or where it has spread, and whether it is affecting other parts of the body) to the patient
Discussing all of the treatment options and recommending the best course of treatment
Delivering high-quality, compassionate care.

Helping maintain the patient’s quality of life by managing cancer-related pain and other symptoms or treatment side effects, such as constipation, nausea and vomiting, and fatigue.

A person with cancer is often treated by a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, meaning a group of doctors who specialize in different areas of oncology. This approach is used because cancer treatment frequently involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

MCh-Plastic Surgery Adm. in India 2015

MCh-Plastic Surgery Admissions in India 2015
Plastic Surgery is derived from greek word "plastikos" which means "to mould".
Plastic surgery helps to mould any disfigured part of the body. Any physical disfigurement, whether from birth or acquired later, leaves behind a mental and emotional scar too. Till a few years back, this curse of ugliness was considered an unavoidable life-long stigma. But in today's modern era, unattractiveness cannot be accepted as a curse and aged look is no longer considered as a sign of wisdom.

The growth of Plastic Surgery has largely been spurred by technological advancement, skill improvement and overall economic development in society. This is evident by the large number of patients opting for Aesthetic surgery now. However, this by no means undermines the importance of Reconstructive Surgery in Trauma and Cancer patients, which not only restores anatomy, but also initiates psychosocial and occupational rehabilitation.

Job Prospects
Career in surgery is a field for those professionals whose demand is always felt. Besides general surgery there are other surgeries specializations such as cosmetic surgery, breast surgery, reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery and dental surgery. Individuals and high socialites undergo cosmetic surgery such as face, breast and body surgeries to enhance and retain their young looks.

This includes common problems such as Hernias, Hydrocele, Pyloric Stynosis, Intussusceptions and Urological Problems. The Surgeons and the nurses in the Department of Paediatrics Surgery are specially trained in surgical care of neonates, infants and children. The department works in conjugation with Dept of Paediatrics and Neonatology to provide comprehensive care to the surgical neonate, infant and child. All surgical condition in the children from birth are successfully managed using World Class Facilities.

Pediatric surgery focuses on providing surgical care for all problems or conditions affecting children that require surgical intervention. Pediatric surgeons are involved with diagnosis, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of surgical problems in children, and they operate on children whose development ranges from the newborn stage through the teenage years. They cooperate with those physicians involved in a child's medical care--neonatologists, pediatricians, and family physicians--to determine whether surgery is the best option for the child.

Job Prospects:

While general surgeons are fully qualified to operate on young patients, pediatric surgeons receive special training in the surgical repair of birth defects, surgical techniques specific to each stage of child development, and the treatment of trauma in children. A career in pediatric surgery requires collaboration with neonatal specialists, pediatricians, and family physicians to determine the best course of treatment for the child, as well as communication with the child's family to ensure his or her pre- and post-operative safety.

Pediatric surgeons examine and perform operations on young patients, from newborns to adolescents, in efforts to treat deformities, diseases and injuries. Neurologists diagnose and determine treatment by examining brain and neck nerves, muscle strength, movement, balance, reflexes and a patient's speech. The most common diagnostic tests performed by a neurologist include the CAT scan, MRI, spinal taps, electroencephalography and electromyography. Neurologists use medicine or other non-surgical techniques to treat neurological problems. They refer patients to a neurosurgeon if the treatment requires surgery.
